Dallas Youth Scholarship
The Dallas Youth Scholarship (DYS) is a city-wide opportunity for high school seniors who live in Dallas County. The scholarship aims to promote higher education by offering financial assistance to high-achieving students. With a total prize pool of $30,000, the scholarships will be awarded as follows:

1st place: $15,000

2nd place: $10,000

3rd place: $5,000
Unlike traditional scholarships, DYS is entirely youth-led. The Dallas Youth Commission (DYC) will handle the applicant review process in three rounds:
First Round: Evaluation of extracurricular involvement, academic performance, and community service Minimum unweighted GPA: 3.2 Participation in at least one extracurricular activity At least 10 hours of community service A clear description of the applicant’s pursuit of higher education Note: Criteria will increase gradually, and applicants may be disqualified at any stage. Only 20% will advance to the next round.
Second Round: Essay submission addressing the applicant’s higher education goals, the steps they are taking to achieve those goals, and how the scholarship will help Essay (max. 400 words) answering: - What are your higher education goals? - What actions are you taking to achieve them? - How will this scholarship help you? Format: Font: Times New Roman, size 12 Spacing: 2 Note: Essays exceeding 400 words will be disqualified. Only 10 students will move forward.
Third Round: In-person interviews conducted by the DYC at City Hall - In-person interviews with the Youth Commissioners - Each commissioner will ask one question, with follow-up questions allowed. - Commissioners who have a personal relationship with an applicant will not vote.
