Dallas Youth Spotlight

What is the DYS?

The Dallas Youth Spotlight is an initiative that was started to recognize the hard work and dedication of Dallas teens around the city. We felt that there was a lack of recognition when it came to "shouting out" the things that youth had worked so hard to accomplish - especially when there were thousands of us. Whether it was through academics, sports, or community service, the 'Spotlight Event' displayed some of the most accomplished teens in the City of Dallas. This year, the Dallas Youth Commission will be presenting six student-nomination awards: Promising Student-Athlete, Best Visual Artist, Captivating Performing Artist, Ambitious Student Leader, Outstanding Volunteer, and Successful Business Owner. As well as one Dallas Youth Magazine nomination award: Best DYM Writer.

How are students selected for the Student-Nomination Awards?

To be considered for one of these awards, students must be nominated. Nominations close on April 21st. After being nominated, the Dallas Youth Commission will review nominations and select students to move on to the interview round. Once the Youth Commission interviews all of the candidates, we will select three finalists for each award who will attend the luncheon. At the luncheon, we will announce the winner for each awardas well as the two other finalists.

How do I nominate someone for an award?

We are looking for anybody who may have had a meaningful impact on people around them, or even on their community as a whole. There are only two requirements: the student must be in 9th-12th grade and they must go to a school in Dallas. These nominations are to be taken seriously, so think carefully about whom you nominate to be spotlighted. To nominate someone for an award fill out the form below.
